Myotomy

Laparoscopic Heller myotomy is a minimally invasive procedure that opens the tight lower esophageal sphincter (the valve between the esophagus and the stomach) by performing a myotomy (cutting the thick muscle of the lower part of the esophagus and the upper part of the stomach) to relieve the dysphagia (difficulty swallowing). Further, a Dor fundoplication (a partial wrapping of the stomach around the esophagus to make a low-pressure valve) is performed to prevent reflux from the stomach into the esophagus following the myotomy.

Endoanal ultrasonography

You have probably been troubled by bowel symptoms for example; for example, constipation or faecal incontinence. Following discussion with your doctor, they have advised you to have an endo-anal ultrasound. An endo-anal ultrasound assesses the anatomy of the anal canal. The examination will be performed using an ultrasound scanner placed within the anal canal. A picture will be generated which will allow identification of the muscles in the anal canal – this will then be used to help determine the best treatment for you.

Endoscopy

LEndoscopy is a nonsurgical procedure performed in order to look into a person’s digestive tract. Using an endoscope, a flexible tube with a light and camera attached to it, we can view pictures of the digestive tract on a TV monitor.

During an Upper GI Endoscopy, an endoscope is easily passed through the mouth and throat and into the esophagus, allowing the doctor to view the esophagus, stomach, and upper part of the small intestine.
